Upcoming EE2 Seminar on 1 July 2012

The seminar will discuss water and environmental projects being carried out in Asia, with a focus on the technologies, challenges, and, the community engagement, in improving access to water and sanitation in developing communities.

This one-day seminar, with a theme on water resources management – treatment, protection and community engagement, will be held in collaboration with the SMTC’s ‘Membranes for Special Needs’ programme and in conjunction with Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) 2012 as a co-located event.

Article on student field trip to Inle Lake in The Nanyang Chronicle

EE2 supports project implementation in Inle Lake, Myanmar

We are pleased to announce that Dr Khin Lay Swe’s Lien Environmental Fellowship project, ‘Development of Clean Water and Sanitation Systems in Inle Lake, Southern Shan State, Myanmar’, has been awarded support for phase one project implementation. Dr Khin will be leading the project’s activities, which include assessing the existing level of drinking water access in selected floating villages in Inle Lake, and improving the protection of spring water sources used for drinking. Publication of conference paper relating to EE2's project

EE2 is pleased to announce that a conference paper ‘Numerical modelling of Kandy Lake, Sri-Lanka in preparation for water quality improvement’ was published at the 6th International Conference on Asian and Pacific Coasts. This research was undertaken as part of the Lien Environmental Fellowship project ‘Mitigation of Pollution in Kandy Lake & Mid Canal (Kandy, Sri Lanka)’, led by Dr Shameen Jinadasa of the University of Peradeniya.

SSMS 2011 Paper Award

We are pleased to congratulate Mrs G.M.P.R. Weerakoon, PhD candidate at the University of Peradeniya, on being selected for the SSMS Paper Award at the International Symposium on Social Management Systems (SSMS) 2011, for the paper ‘An Approach for Small Community Waste Water Management Using Constructed Wetlands’ (also co-authored by Sasitharan R, Jinadasa K.B.S.N. and Mowjood M.I.M.).

EE2 is working with Dr Jinadasa and the University of Peradeniya on the Lien Environmental Fellowship project to mitigate pollution in Kandy Lake and Mid Canal (Kandy, Sri Lanka).

Student Field Trip to Inle Lake, Myanmar, 10 to 18 Dec 2011

EE2 is offering NTU students an opportunity to play a part in improving access to drinking water in the floating villages of Inle Lake, Myanmar. More info.

Student Field Trip to Bandung, Indonesia, 29 May to 5 Jun 2011

On 29th May 2011, EE2 led a team of students from NTU and Bandung Polytechnic of Health on a study trip to the slum communities of Cibuntu, Bandung, Indonesia. The mission was to assist Dr. Neni Sintawardani from the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) in studying the awareness and acceptance level of the Cibuntu community towards the proposed implementation of biogas technology. EE2 organises inaugural seminar at Singapore International Water Week 2011

A seminar on "Water and Environment in Asia's Developing Communities" was held on Wednesday, 6 July, at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organized by EE2 and supported by AA Collaborative Research Environment (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science), the seminar featured 12 researchers and academics presenting papers focused on improving water and sanitation conditions in developing communities in Asia. EE2 awards two Lien Environmental Fellowships

EE2 is pleased to award the Lien Environmental Fellowship to:

  • Mr Agus Suyanto, Yogyakarta School of Environmental Engineering for the project 'Application of Water Treatment Process in Candirejo Village, Yogyarkarta Special Province'
  • Mr Souksakhone Savath, National University of Laos for the project 'Potential for the Conversion of a Waste Stabilisation Pond into an Integrated Pond Wetland System for the Treatment of Wastewater in Dongkok Wetland'
